How To: Find Who is on Twitter in Your Area

Have you ever wondered how many people in your area are on Twitter? How many in your town, city, state or county? I have and I’m sure many of you have too. So I was doing a little bit of research into who was on Twitter in my area and found the most perfect way to narrow down Twitter profiles to just the people in your area who are open about their location.

All using the power of Google.

Here’s how to do it.

Firstly you will be using a search function on Google that allows you to search within a particular site – in this case Twitter.

First Type into Google:  Site:Twitter.com

What this would do if you press search is return a list of all the pages on Twitter that are indexed by Google but we need to find only the pages that contain people in your area.

So next you add a space after what you’ve already typed in then type Location followed your city or town name and place both inside quotes e.g. “Location Texas”.

What that does is looks on Twitter for the words Location and Texas that are directly beside each other as they are on a Twitter profile which will then return all the results for Twitter profiles who have publicly displayed their location as Texas.

So that’s how to find who on Twitter is in your area or a certain area of your choice. This tactic can also be used to search other sites and if you take a full understanding of its power.. you will never be defeated on your searching with Google again.
